There’s more than One way, here’s Nine Nifty Ways to Earn an Extra $100 Bucks a Month

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Whether you’re struggling financially, emotionally, physically, or spiritually, You don’t have to suffer if you are hurting for money.

Renting can be expensive, and sometimes not exactly worth the money you pay. You’ve got to pay your monthly rent, plus your electric bill, water bill, gas bill, and other bills. Consider everything monthly. The rates build up, and you can easily fall into debt.

No one wants to get in debt, but sometimes it seems unavoidable. However, there is a way you can afford it, and get your money’s worth every month, while seemingly lowering your monthly payments. No matter what the situation, there’s an apartment that’s right for you.

  • Get a small side Internet job that you can work from home. Many online jobs allow you to put in some time once a week or so on weekends, so you can have more money coming in. This can quickly equate to earning an extra $100 a month.
  • Sell items on eBay. If you have a hobby of garage sale hopping, look for small treasures when you’re out shopping. Buy cheap and sell high on eBay. EBay is an online auction website that allows you to sell items quickly and easily. If you stick to it and make it a priority, you can easily earn an extra $100 a month.
  • Turn a hobby into a small business. If you enjoy web design but don’t do it as a career, advertise that you can create web sites for people quickly and easily. Don’t charge too much, because you want to do it as a hobby and you do want to get customers. But charging a nominal fee is a great way to turn something you enjoy doing into $100 each month.
  • Find people who owe you money. If you start tying up loose ends and tracking down people you have judgments against, you can start collecting cash. Also look at cable companies that you may have overpaid. Ask for your refund. Find companies that you owe money to and it quite possibly can turn into an extra $100 each month.
  • Start selling old things in your house that you no longer need. Everyone has things in their home that they haven’t used in a year or more. These items oftentimes can be sold quite easily and not missed. Start posting these items on sites like Craig’s List or eBay and you can quickly and easily earn extra income each month. This is also a great way to start sorting out the things from your home that you no longer need. Soon enough you will have a streamlined household.
  • Instead of having bills mailed to you, and having to worry about writing and mailing out checks to several different people every thirty days, there’s one flat rate to pay every month. This payment will include your rent bill, water, gas, electric, and many other things that come with the apartment. You’d be surprised at how low the payments per month actually are.
  • There are some more expensive apartments. However, if you want more luxury with the place you’re living. Some apartment rent rates are higher than others, and this is because some apartments have hidden bills and fees. Obviously, the gas and electric bills are very high due to everyone living in the apartment, but again, the bills are divided up fairly equally. Another good thing is that, within reason, you can use a fair amount of water and gas and electricity and not get charged more for it every month.
  • Living in an apartment and having one fixed bill per month can be a major stress reliever, and a good way to help things get organized. Apartments can be fun and cheap places to live.
  • Annual fees are expenses paid every year for keeping/owning your credit card. These fees are usually tracked by points. For example, 10 points equals 10% of the original credit line. So if you’ve got a $200 bill, you might have 25 days to pay it, and if you’re late on the payment, you’ll get charged a certain amount of money in addition to the original $200 fee.

Energy Tips to Keep You from Maxing your Household Budget

    Sunday, October 25th, 2009

With all the hype about saving energy and saving money these days, everyone can use some helpful tips on how to prevent your budget from being maxed out and saving the environment around you at the same time. This involves a variety of different factors.

One of the more obvious tips is to turn out the lights when you are not in a room. That alone can save you at least a few dollars a month. Less-obvious ways to reduce cost of energy includes ‘Converting to renewable energy’. Three time-tested natural sources of energy are sunlight, wind, and water and they are usually combined with solar panels, windmills, or generators.

Even cars nowadays can be converted to run on other types of renewable fuel, such as wood or plant products.

Investing in more durable items also helps in the long run. Sometimes the up-front cost of purchasing longer-lasting appliances, furniture, and other household items can be more than you want to pay. However, this short-term investment has long-term benefits, for one, most often those items that are well-made are usually more energy efficient.

    - Heat and cool your house naturally. This can be achieved by pulling the shades during the day and pulling them up at least part way at night. (If you value your privacy blinds are useful for this purpose.  Double-glassing is also an option, yet sometimes costly, is usually a once off cost and will save you on heating and cooling costs in the long run.

    - Insulate your home. This will reduce the cost of heating and cooling. Along with that, make sure you close all doors and windows while the home heater or air conditioner is on.  Make sure your doors and windows seal around the edges, this can be accomplished by running a rubber / sealer tape (found in most hardware stores) around the inside edge of the frame, when the door or window is closed it presses against the rubber seal and helps with locking in air. I have even found this to be a great help with cleaning since it prevents dust from blowing into your home and causing you to spend less on cleaning and vacuuming.

    - Wash full loads of clothes and dishes. When possible, do not run the dishwasher just for a few items. If you want to clean a stray dish a soap dispenser with a scrub brush attached is perfect for this purpose.

    - Hang clothes on the line instead of drying them with a dryer. This will dramatically cut down on the energy used, as you will not be running the dryer nearly is often.  Clothes dry fastest on a hot, dry, sunny day, this goes without saying, yet many choose not to use this free yet sometimes abundant resource.

    - Shut down your computer, television, car, and miscellaneous devices. Any computer or electronic item will use up the most energy, so it is important to shut it down at night or during other times when you are not using them. Any charging devices or power-packs (like those used for mobile phones, laptops and printers) should be unplugged or turned off when not in use as this continues to use electricity even though the device is not connected to it.  TV’s or Sound systems should also be switched off by the switch or plug if not in use, since keeping them on standby also still uses electricity.

    - Use compact florescent light bulbs. You usually get more usage for these for the price, as they last quite a bit longer than traditional bulbs.  These days you can get these florescent bulbs in many variants, from bright white light to soft warm yellow light.

    - Use power strips, and surge protectors. Any large device that you have such as a DVD player, television, or computer should be plugged into a box such as this. If you are not sure what they are, contact your local computer store and they will point you in the right direction. In a nutshell, power strips usually have outlets for plugging in electrical devices of all kinds (heavy-duty and light-duty). This power supply is then plugged into the wall. Using these devices can cut your bill as much as 30%.

    - Set your water heater at a lower temperature in the summer. This will lower the cost of heating your water for shower, dishes, household cleaning, car washing, and other home duties. Instead of a long shower, take a bath (or a short shower). If you absolutely cannot be content with taking a five-minute or ten-minute shower then you should consider taking a bath instead. It will save you money. However, if you take a shorter shower it would use less water than filling your tub with bath water.

More energy saving tips can be found on local and national government websites. You can also call energy savings hotlines for further advice. Additionally, non-profit environmental groups have educational resource regarding various aspects of energy-saving and conservation.

These are but only a few tips, some obvious others maybe not so. Either way, if you are looking for simple ways to save energy and money, driven by your passion to save the environment or by the constraints of a budget, this information would ensure you a better quality of life.

Debt Happens One Purchase at a Time. The Steps to Financial Freedom.

    Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Although a great deal has been written regarding financial freedom and independence, it seems people find it difficult to fully comprehend the true meaning. Typically people connect wealth with riches and fundamentally assume financial freedom dictates possessing money able to purchase anything they desire.

According to Webster’s dictionary, ‘wealth’ is defined as:

“people who have an abundance of material possessions”

    It does not say:

“people who have an abundance of material possessions that are paid for”!

Today’s idea of acquiring material possessions usually means having to be in debt or using debt to acquire it.  Actually, people who have high standard of living seldom have a lot of money very limited investments, with no credible assets, and making it a priority to gain more possessions of a material nature instead of establishing financial independence.  A fervent desire to gain instant gratifications leaves them with no emergency fund to access, no planning for retirements and much stress mentally and physically.

Chronic stress and anxiety is amassed by people placing themselves in staggering debt.  Physical ailments and poor health often results from the mental burden in handling this stress, often seeing no way out from their inability in not being able to control their lives and expenses.  As a result of this, major incomprehensible debt can create an unhealthy and unhappy living environment.

Still, there is a way out and it comes down to goals, values and priorities.  However, one has to be in a position where you can see things clearer and you are ready to begin living your plan for living simply and happy.

Giving you some financial help to achieve the financial independence you desire, some key steps and major milestones that will enable you to become debt free need to be established.  It takes commitment, discipline and planning.

Taking the time and effort required for transforming debt into wealth will encourage you to accomplish things you want to do for a happier and fulfilled life.

The major steps to financial freedom are:

    • - Paying yourself first from your wages before paying anything else
    • - Preparing for emergencies i.e. Vehicle repairs or replacing appliances etc.
    • - Paying of existing debt within a certain time period of time
    • - Planning for a 3 to 6 month crisis for in the event that you are unable to work
    • - Preparing for college expenses early if you have children
    • - Building wealth by making wise investment choices
    • - And in some instances possibly starting a business of your own

Establishing a long-term plan for financial happiness will mean you need to examine each of these steps to financial freedom  in detail.  The outcome will be much easier to achieve if you approach this process with a positive mental attitude.

This will take some time, and remember you didn’t get to where you are now, overnight.   Just like gaining weight, usually not doing anything about it, when you wake up one day and realize you’re suddenly 30 or 40 pounds overweight.  And you wonder how did it happen?  It happened one day at a time.

Debt happens one purchase at a time…

Making Working at Home REALLY WORK – Part Seven

    Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The idea of working at home is attractive, but the reality can be challenging. Fortunately, most of the challenges one faces can be managed with a little effort and forethought.

Our seventh and last post of our seven week mini course discusses how to avoid the Super-mom Syndrome while working at home. Have a look at our previous posts to get the complete 7 week mini-course.

This week we discuss: WORK AT HOME MOMS, AVOIDING THE SUPER-MOM SYNDROME

Many women in today’s society are concerned about their abilities to be a great mom. As any mother knows, it is tough to not compare yourself to others, and while one mom may be a fantastic caregiver, she will almost always find fault with her parenting styles and/or abilities.

She begins to feel stress about her duties as “mom,” “wife,” and “housekeeper.” The pressure to be the so-called “super mom” builds even more when she is a work at home parent, and adds “employee” to the list.

Working at home while raising children has become wildly popular with today’s families, as costs for childcare and commuting to work skyrocket. With more and more moms, and dads, entering the work at home field, the dynamics of the family as we know it are changing.

You might think the pressure to be a “super mom” would be less for those able to spend time at home with the children, but there are other things to take into consideration. For one, moms that work at home are probably still be viewed as the main caregiver, housekeeper, and organizer.

When spouses and other family members fail to contribute to the household, moms often take the burden of doing it all, often without complaint, because they feel the need to be that “super mom.”

This can be a dangerous trap for moms to fall into. While the family has clean laundry, an impeccably cleaned kitchen, a nice meal to come home to and money in the bank account, mom herself is falling apart. The key to keeping it together is keeping it in perspective. Moms who work at home may earn less than they did in the corporate world, but they have schedules that are more flexible and get to spend more time with their family.

To avoid overwork as a result of wanting to become a mom who does it all, it is important for mothers to remember what is important to them. Why was the decision made to work at home instead of in a traditional office?

Often the answers involve children, money, and flexibility. Getting raise her children, saving money on childcare, and having the flexibility for when children are sick are key ingredients in the work at home mom’s life. The best “super mom” is the mom who takes care of herself as much as she does her family. It is impossible to have the energy and patience to deal with young children, a messy house, or an unmotivated spouse if mom gets minimal sleep, or leaves little time to eat healthy and relax from the everyday stresses that come with parenting.

In addition, giving too much to others, becoming a “people pleaser,” is a sure way to enter a cycle in which moms give so much they eventually withdraw all help and resent those whom she actually bent over backwards to help previously.

When moms can learn to take care of themselves with the energy that they give to their families, they will be in the right frame of mind to prioritize the needs within the family dynamic. She can be the best mom for her family, while avoiding the trap and pitfalls of becoming a “super mom.”

Use these few tips and start to enjoy a more well rounded work at home career and lifestyle today. This was the last part of our 7 week mini course , get the complete 7 week series earlier in this blog.

Identify Your Values and Goals to Live Simply Happy and Debt Free

    Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Learning to be simply happy means knowing exactly what is important to you in your life.

In beginning the process of living simply happy and debt-free requires that you identify and analyze your values. Values are the things you strive for in your life and they should be the beacon of light to you in everything you do. The values in your life shine before you and light your path to reach your goals.

Once you have identified your values, it is much easier to establish and reach your goals. As you define your values, think about what you really want to do or have. Maybe independence, security, and spirituality are important to you. Perhaps power, authority, and adventure are your values.

Be honest with yourself and clarify your values. Once you recognize your values:

    • - determine if you are living the life you want to live based on your values
    • - assess how your goals and actions in life align with your values
    • - determine if you are effectively prioritizing your actions
    • - think about things in your life that take you further away from your values
    • - consider any hindrances that prohibit you from living your life based on your personal values

Now that your values are crystal clear to you, begin to live your life today based on those values. You need to stay focused on your values and keep them firmly in your mind as you determine your goals. Let your values direct your path and your actions towards a better life.

Many people never take time to truly establish goals for their lives. They either don’t believe it’s important or they don’t see the point in it. Some people don’t really know what they want out of life while others are afraid to set goals in fear of not achieving them. Some people don’t even know how to begin setting goals because they’ve never given it any consideration at all.

But setting goals is what provides you with the roadmap to achieving the things that are really important to you. Establishing a goal drives you to a destination and reaching your destination helps you establish new and better goals. It’s a lifelong process of deciding where you want to go, creating plans to get there, and establishing new goals once you arrive.

Reaching your goals is a fulfilling and satisfying experience. It gives you the confidence and motivation to move forward. It also gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you have accomplished an important milestone in your life while holding true to your personal values.

    What could be more rewarding!

Assessing Your Own Life for Financial Freedom

    Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

In our daily pursuit to simply live happily and debt free it is imperative to firstly determine where we are currently. You will recognize the need to make certain changes and you can then begin the process of assessing and evaluating your current situation to better your financial future. For financial freedom you need to have your Values, Goals and Priorities aligned.

Here is two examples that will help clarify how you can better assess your own values, goals, and priorities.

    Scenario One:

    Imagine your goals are:

    • – To have the biggest house in the most prestigious neighborhood of the city
    • – To own the newest, sleekest, fastest model of car imaginable
    • – To have a huge array of material possessions to showcase your success
    • – To make lots of money or even using credit cards to acquire these possessions

So there for your values are:

    • – material possessions
    • – money
    • – prestige
    • – personal recognition
    • – elevated social status

You are totally immersed in achieving your goals based on your values, and you have prioritized your life to attain them. You are sacrificing quality time with your family and neglecting your own personal mental and physical health. You are even going as far as to maximize your credit cards and take on additional debt to buy the things you desire.

Your priorities are based on spending every possible minute accomplishing your goals to amass fortunes, and stockpiling your possessions, at the cost of ignoring the other aspects of your life.

    Scenario Two:

    Now imagine your goals are:

    • – To being debt-free and financially independent
    • – To provide for the things your family needs
    • – To take care of your own personal and spiritual needs
    • – To spend quality time with family and friends

So there for your values are:

    • – independence
    • – family
    • – financial health
    • – peace and tranquility
    • – high quality of life personally and spiritually

Your goals and priorities are based on making a living at a job where you can produce a comfortable income, investing your money wisely for financial independence, affording time for family and friends, and allowing time for exercising, meditating, or other activities to enrich your personal and spiritual life.

In the two examples above, the goals, values, and priorities are well-aligned. Although you may not agree with any one scenario, you can see that each person is focusing on the things that are important to them.

However, the majority of humanity today work an exorbitant amount of time to make money to buy lots of material possessions – and you are even going into serious debt to make it happen too.

    So this tells us that:

    • – Your goals, values, and priorities are totally out of alignment.
    • – You have abandoned your own personal goals and values to live a life that is fraught with stress, anxiety, and distress.
    • – You are madly working toward goals that are in total conflict with the things you hold near and dear to your heart and your life.
    • – You have sacrificed the life you desire for the life you have.
    • – You are living someone else’s life!

    Based on this:

    • – Are you happy? No.
    • – Is this the life you want to live? No.
    • – Is it the life you are living? Yes.
    • – Does it have to be this way? No.
    • – Can you change and redirect your life? Absolutely!
    • – Can you overcome obstacles to get there? Definitely!

If you are interested in being simply happy and debt-free, then it’s time for you to examine your current situation to create the life you desire. It’s time for you to make the changes that will lead to happiness and a better quality of life.

You need to stand up for yourself and what you value in life should now be your mantra and your passion! You CAN make it happen.

To read more about this subject and more you can find a brilliant guide to help you evaluate your life as it is right now and identify the changes you need to make in the most important areas is instantly available at

Making Working at Home REALLY WORK – Part Six

    Saturday, July 18th, 2009

The idea of working at home is attractive, but the reality can be challenging. Fortunately, most of the challenges one faces can be managed with a little effort and forethought.

Our sixth post and second to last of our seven week mini course discusses how to keep our kids occupied and entertained when we need to work at home. So, grab the RSS feed from this blog not to miss the complete mini course. Have a look at our previous posts too.

This week we discuss: KEEPING THE KIDS OCCUPIED WHEN YOU ARE WORKING

Being a work at home parent isn’t easy, but there are many rewards. First (and foremost) is the time you get to spend with your children. Granted you are working, but you are still raising your children by being there for them during your workday.

However, as wonderful as it is being a work at home parent, it’s not as easy as some may think. There are constant interruptions to deal with, the sounds of children fighting, or the disruptions caused by loud horseplay.

While some may begin why they decided to work from home when they have to begin dealing with these challenges, there are a few simple ways to keep sane and productive. Following are a few suggestions for helping your children stay occupied while you try to make your clients happy:

Give them some entertainment. What sort of entertainment your child will prefer varies greatly depending on their age and their ability to remain focused on one task. Some good choices include movies, video games, educational television, coloring books and other self-sufficient art projects. Playing board games or cards with siblings work well, and if they’re old enough, let them run around outside in the yard or ride their bike up and down the street.

Make compromises with your children. While bribes are not the answer, offering to provide your child with rewards for good behavior while you’re working is a good idea. Studies show children will respond better if you use positive reinforcement instead of threatening a consequence should they act up.

In other words, it is better for the parent to offer a trip to the ice cream store after dinner instead of threatening to take away toys and/or other things special to the child.

Establish a time for peaceful activities. Schedule a time of the day when the television and radio are off and when playtime means finding a quiet activity. Make it a routine occurrence. Draw the blinds and eliminate any distractions.

Examples of peaceful activities include reading, writing, playing with puzzles, coloring, or just playing quietly. Quiet toys such as building blocks are great for “quiet time.” A nap may even be in order. Take advantage of community resources. Many are hesitant to use help when it comes to taking care of their children, but community programs are there for a reason. Enroll your child in a fun summer camp or in a sports program. Girls Scouts, the YMCA, and the Boys and Girls Club are good ideas as well.

There are certain work at home jobs and careers that are quite impossible to work if there are small children at home. Such jobs include telemarketing, telephone customer service, and certain art disciplines since as painting.

In addition, depending on your child’s age, or your personal ability to deal with distractions, you may have a hard time being accurate with detail-oriented jobs such as bookkeeping, writing, and proofreading. In these cases, finding an in-home sitter, parent’s helper, or outside daycare may be the best option for you or your kids.

Making Working at Home REALLY WORK – Part Five

    Saturday, July 11th, 2009

The idea of working at home is attractive, but the reality can be challenging. Fortunately, most of the challenges one faces can be managed with a little effort and forethought.

Our Fifth post of our seven week mini course discusses how we can combine Parenting while working at home. So, grab the RSS feed from this blog not to miss the complete mini course. Have a look at our previous posts too.

This week we discuss: PARENTING WHILE WORKING AT HOME

One of most important aspects of parenting is properly bonding with your child. Many work at home parents stress this to family and friends when the decision is made to raise their children instead of maintaining a job outside the home.

Studies have shown that children are most impressionable between birth and three years of age, and that by age three, they have learned whether they can trust others, including their parents. The bond that is created during this time is the foundation for all other relationships that will be forged during a child’s life.

However, there can be some serious consequences for both parent and child when they are each constantly surrounded by the other. These should be taken into consideration when deciding if working at home is for you.

While these situations may be rare, they do happen. The can also be avoided with some creativity on the part of the work at home parent. Here is a short list of things that can result from spending too much time with your children, and how both mom and child can prevent them:

    For the child:

Being spoiled: Children surrounded by only one parent (and no peers) may become accustomed to wanting only that parent around. Making sure your child spends ample time during the evening and on weekends with children and the parent not working at home. This will help ensure that the child’s develops a healthy concept of relationships and sharing.

Lack of social skills: Some work at home parents mistakenly don’t take time to expose their children to outside activities such as play groups. Scheduling a day off, or a few hours each week, and exposing your child to other children and adults will help them learn to interact with others before they reach school age. At age 3, it may be appropriate to enroll the child in preschool, to ensure a well-rounded social and learning environment to meet the child’s growing needs.

    For parents:

Loss of feeling of “self”: It’s very easy for those who parent full-time to feel like they don’t know themselves anymore. A parent may believe he or she is defined only as a parent, spouse, student, employee, housekeeper, or handyman. It is important for everyone to maintain their identity by remembering to indulge in their needs on occasion. A night out with friends, or a hobby performed away from home could make one feel like a full person again.

Sadness or depression: Lack of adult contact and the struggle to manage both work and home life at the same time may lead some into a deep sadness. This is more apparent with those who infrequently leave the house, or work all day in their pajamas.

There are, of course, some for whom spending the day in p.j.’s is a dream come true! Dressing up and spending some time out of doors goes a long way toward feeling like a functioning part of society. These are serious aspects to consider for the work at home parent, and while most parents don’t run into these problems, it is important to educate others about the risks of them occurring

Use these few tips and start to enjoy a more well rounded work at home career and lifestyle today. Join us again soon for the 6th and second last of our 7 week mini course next week.

Making Working at Home REALLY WORK – Part Four

    Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

The idea of working at home is attractive, but the reality can be challenging. Fortunately, most of the challenges one faces can be managed with a little effort and forethought.

This week we discuss: BOUNDARY SETTING

Those who have never worked at home aren’t always aware of the work that is involved in being self-employed. Some may have even known a business owner (or two) who lazily sat home, reading the news and drinking coffee all day while their employees did most of the work at an office or warehouse.

Unfortunately, this creates a negative image for those who consider themselves self-employed. Those who work at home cannot always be compared to business owners, who most likely do delegate a good portion of their work. Rather, work at home individuals are often the owner and the employees, the planner and the executioner. In other words, many do all of the work required to make their businesses run.

Because many people do not realize this, friends and family of those working at home may often interrupt their workday with phone calls and unexpected visits that business owners just do not have time to deal with. While your loved ones may have good intentions in their desire to communicate with you during work hours, here are a few tips to educate your friends and family about your need for boundaries:

    1. Make a good sign to hang on your door. If you work primarily on the phone where a doorbell ringing might set the dogs off barking, this should help things a little. Print a note politely telling visitors you are unavailable during certain working hours. Mention that packages may be left at the door without ringing the bell. Laminate it, and hang it up when you begin your workday.

    2. Turn off the telephone ringer (if possible) or use Caller I.D. Screening your calls and only answering the business-related ones are a good way to cut back on annoying and frivolous phone calls. When your friends and family ask why you did not take their call, simply reply that you were working, and only taking calls from client. After a few times of this happening, they should begin to get the point.

    3. Don’t let others talk you into doing errands or favors for them. Learn to say no without offering to help another time. Be firm. Many who work at home get phone calls from friends or other parents asking them to do a favor, run an errand, or transport their children for them. Politely inform them that you are working, and that the only breaks you get throughout the day are to drop off and pick up your children from school.

    4. Create a “set” schedule. If you work some hours one day and others another, it will be hard for your loved ones to know the best time to get in touch. Set your schedule and make sure everyone knows it. Put it on the back of your business cards and hand them out at your next family function.

Whether your friends and family are crossing boundaries because they aren’t aware of their existence, or because they don’t truly believe in their necessity, following the above suggestions will help you educate them about your needs. Hopefully, they will recognize your desires, sense your seriousness about needing boundaries, and be fully willing to comply.

    Life is a balancing act

    Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Today’s hectic world requires multi-tasking at every level. Work, family, and social life are all filled with numerous activities and demands on our time. It’s difficult to determine where and how to spend your time with so many commitments and activities tugging at you. It’s a balancing act that feels more like a juggling act and it has most people filled with anxiety and stress.

Over 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, with no cushion or planning for emergencies. They are juggling their money and their debt and getting nowhere – except further in debt and perilously close to a mental breakdown from the stress and anxiety of their situation. Their lives are so stressful and difficult, they don’t have time to enjoy living.

But when you make the commitment to simplify your life and live a good life while still taking care of every other aspect of your life, it becomes a much more manageable task. It all starts with a good hard look at what’s important to you in this life. It requires you to:

    • Clearly understand your personal situation
    • Recognize your issues
    • Identify what keeps you from reaching your goals
    • Determine what capabilities you have to succeed
    • Develop a plan for change

Insightful thinking and honestly answering questions about your current life, compared to the life you would really like to live, will lead to a greater understanding of what is needed to achieve that new life. Pulling back the covers and accepting the cold, hard facts about what is wrong with your current life will eventually lead to a better life.

You must take control of your life and make changes to reach the destination you dream about. Don’t just think about it – take action and take control of your life. When you are in control, you are able to overcome obstacles and identify capabilities deep inside you that until now, you did not know existed.

It’s an enlightening, exciting realization to discover that you can control your own destiny!

Consider some of the questions that will give you a greater understanding of your current situation and the simpler life that that awaits you:

    • What gives you pleasure and makes you happy?
    • Where are you spending your time?
    • Where do you want to spend your time?
    • What are your goals?
    • What are your values and are they aligned with your goals?
    • What are your priorities in life?
    • Are you spending your time on the right things to achieve your goals?
    • Where do your family and friends fit in with your goals?
    • What’s keeping you from achieving your goals?
    • What’s keeping you from living the life you’ve always wanted to live?
    • How can you overcome the obstacles?
    • What can you change?
    • What capabilities, talents, and skills do you bring to the table?
    • How can you leverage your abilities better to attain the life you desire?

Looking at yourself honestly and assessing your current situation is a harsh reality for many. Once you sit down and evaluate where you are currently spending your time, money, and energy, you may be surprised at the choices you have made. You may discover that your actions are not aligned with your goals.

And more importantly, you may realize that your goals are in conflict with your values!

    Scary?

It can be, but it doesn’t have to be.

Change can be hard and it may be painful – but the pain will be short-lived and your new life will be abundant with happiness. If you don’t change, aren’t you going to go through even more pain with no end to your debt, unhappiness, and stress in sight?

If your desire is to be debt-free and simply free, then that’s the path you should take. That journey will lead to greater enlightenment and the ability to nourish your spirituality in ways you never thought possible.

It may require some changes to the way you work and live. But it will give you the life you desire – including a quality of life that is rewarding and fulfilling. You will derive great satisfaction, fulfillment, and contentment from living the life you were meant to live.

    The rewards will be great.
