Identify Your Values and Goals to Live Simply Happy and Debt Free

Learning to be simply happy means knowing exactly what is important to you in your life.

In beginning the process of living simply happy and debt-free requires that you identify and analyze your values. Values are the things you strive for in your life and they should be the beacon of light to you in everything you do. The values in your life shine before you and light your path to reach your goals.

Once you have identified your values, it is much easier to establish and reach your goals. As you define your values, think about what you really want to do or have. Maybe independence, security, and spirituality are important to you. Perhaps power, authority, and adventure are your values.

Be honest with yourself and clarify your values. Once you recognize your values:

  • - determine if you are living the life you want to live based on your values
  • - assess how your goals and actions in life align with your values
  • - determine if you are effectively prioritizing your actions
  • - think about things in your life that take you further away from your values
  • - consider any hindrances that prohibit you from living your life based on your personal values

Now that your values are crystal clear to you, begin to live your life today based on those values. You need to stay focused on your values and keep them firmly in your mind as you determine your goals. Let your values direct your path and your actions towards a better life.

Many people never take time to truly establish goals for their lives. They either don’t believe it’s important or they don’t see the point in it. Some people don’t really know what they want out of life while others are afraid to set goals in fear of not achieving them. Some people don’t even know how to begin setting goals because they’ve never given it any consideration at all.

But setting goals is what provides you with the roadmap to achieving the things that are really important to you. Establishing a goal drives you to a destination and reaching your destination helps you establish new and better goals. It’s a lifelong process of deciding where you want to go, creating plans to get there, and establishing new goals once you arrive.

Reaching your goals is a fulfilling and satisfying experience. It gives you the confidence and motivation to move forward. It also gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you have accomplished an important milestone in your life while holding true to your personal values.

Assessing Your Own Life for Financial Freedom

In our daily pursuit to simply live happily and debt free it is imperative to firstly determine where we are currently. You will recognize the need to make certain changes and you can then begin the process of assessing and evaluating your current situation to better your financial future. For financial freedom you need to have your Values, Goals and Priorities aligned.

Here is two examples that will help clarify how you can better assess your own values, goals, and priorities.

Scenario One:

Imagine your goals are:

  • – To have the biggest house in the most prestigious neighborhood of the city
  • – To own the newest, sleekest, fastest model of car imaginable
  • – To have a huge array of material possessions to showcase your success
  • – To make lots of money or even using credit cards to acquire these possessions

So there for your values are:

  • – material possessions
  • – money
  • – prestige
  • – personal recognition
  • – elevated social status

You are totally immersed in achieving your goals based on your values, and you have prioritized your life to attain them. You are sacrificing quality time with your family and neglecting your own personal mental and physical health. You are even going as far as to maximize your credit cards and take on additional debt to buy the things you desire.

Your priorities are based on spending every possible minute accomplishing your goals to amass fortunes, and stockpiling your possessions, at the cost of ignoring the other aspects of your life.

Scenario Two:

Now imagine your goals are:

  • – To being debt-free and financially independent
  • – To provide for the things your family needs
  • – To take care of your own personal and spiritual needs
  • – To spend quality time with family and friends

So there for your values are:

  • – independence
  • – family
  • – financial health
  • – peace and tranquility
  • – high quality of life personally and spiritually

Your goals and priorities are based on making a living at a job where you can produce a comfortable income, investing your money wisely for financial independence, affording time for family and friends, and allowing time for exercising, meditating, or other activities to enrich your personal and spiritual life.

In the two examples above, the goals, values, and priorities are well-aligned. Although you may not agree with any one scenario, you can see that each person is focusing on the things that are important to them.

However, the majority of humanity today work an exorbitant amount of time to make money to buy lots of material possessions – and you are even going into serious debt to make it happen too.

So this tells us that:

  • – Your goals, values, and priorities are totally out of alignment.
  • – You have abandoned your own personal goals and values to live a life that is fraught with stress, anxiety, and distress.
  • – You are madly working toward goals that are in total conflict with the things you hold near and dear to your heart and your life.
  • – You have sacrificed the life you desire for the life you have.
  • – You are living someone else’s life!

Based on this:

  • – Are you happy? No.
  • – Is this the life you want to live? No.
  • – Is it the life you are living? Yes.
  • – Does it have to be this way? No.
  • – Can you change and redirect your life? Absolutely!
  • – Can you overcome obstacles to get there? Definitely!

If you are interested in being simply happy and debt-free, then it’s time for you to examine your current situation to create the life you desire. It’s time for you to make the changes that will lead to happiness and a better quality of life.

You need to stand up for yourself and what you value in life should now be your mantra and your passion! You CAN make it happen.

Life is a balancing act

Today’s hectic world requires multi-tasking at every level. Work, family, and social life are all filled with numerous activities and demands on our time. It’s difficult to determine where and how to spend your time with so many commitments and activities tugging at you. It’s a balancing act that feels more like a juggling act and it has most people filled with anxiety and stress.

Over 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, with no cushion or planning for emergencies. They are juggling their money and their debt and getting nowhere – except further in debt and perilously close to a mental breakdown from the stress and anxiety of their situation. Their lives are so stressful and difficult, they don’t have time to enjoy living.

But when you make the commitment to simplify your life and live a good life while still taking care of every other aspect of your life, it becomes a much more manageable task. It all starts with a good hard look at what’s important to you in this life. It requires you to:

  • Clearly understand your personal situation
  • Recognize your issues
  • Identify what keeps you from reaching your goals
  • Determine what capabilities you have to succeed
  • Develop a plan for change

Insightful thinking and honestly answering questions about your current life, compared to the life you would really like to live, will lead to a greater understanding of what is needed to achieve that new life. Pulling back the covers and accepting the cold, hard facts about what is wrong with your current life will eventually lead to a better life.

You must take control of your life and make changes to reach the destination you dream about. Don’t just think about it – take action and take control of your life. When you are in control, you are able to overcome obstacles and identify capabilities deep inside you that until now, you did not know existed.

It’s an enlightening, exciting realization to discover that you can control your own destiny!

Consider some of the questions that will give you a greater understanding of your current situation and the simpler life that that awaits you:

  • What gives you pleasure and makes you happy?
  • Where are you spending your time?
  • Where do you want to spend your time?
  • What are your goals?
  • What are your values and are they aligned with your goals?
  • What are your priorities in life?
  • Are you spending your time on the right things to achieve your goals?
  • Where do your family and friends fit in with your goals?
  • What’s keeping you from achieving your goals?
  • What’s keeping you from living the life you’ve always wanted to live?
  • How can you overcome the obstacles?
  • What can you change?
  • What capabilities, talents, and skills do you bring to the table?
  • How can you leverage your abilities better to attain the life you desire?

Looking at yourself honestly and assessing your current situation is a harsh reality for many. Once you sit down and evaluate where you are currently spending your time, money, and energy, you may be surprised at the choices you have made. You may discover that your actions are not aligned with your goals.

And more importantly, you may realize that your goals are in conflict with your values!

Scary?

It can be, but it doesn’t have to be.

Change can be hard and it may be painful – but the pain will be short-lived and your new life will be abundant with happiness. If you don’t change, aren’t you going to go through even more pain with no end to your debt, unhappiness, and stress in sight?

If your desire is to be debt-free and simply free, then that’s the path you should take. That journey will lead to greater enlightenment and the ability to nourish your spirituality in ways you never thought possible.

It may require some changes to the way you work and live. But it will give you the life you desire – including a quality of life that is rewarding and fulfilling. You will derive great satisfaction, fulfillment, and contentment from living the life you were meant to live.

Safety Online – How to Protect Yourself.

Being online is a big part of people’s social lives these days. There are online games, social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, online dating sites and lots of other sites where people can meet and network. Unfortunately, being very visible online can put at risk for being assaulted. The number of cases where women are being assaulted and even killed by people that found them on the Internet is growing every year.

Some of the points below may sound a bit extreme and controversial. These are only guidelines to help protect yourself from various problems millions are faced with everyday on the web. Problems including things like Identity Theft, Online Bullying and other serious crimes are on the increase and will only get more difficult to control if We don’t take care to protect our personal information on the web.

Do you do enough to protect yourself when you’re online? Here are some ways that you can stay safe when you’re online.

Your Personal Computer:

· Use Antivirus and Anti spyware software. If someone sends you a worm on your computer they can log into your computer and see everything that you type as well as all your personal information like bank account and credit card information, address, social security number and more.

They can also get access to all your personal photos and documents. It’s easy to use anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Many of them are free. Spybot, one of the best, can be downloaded for free from several different websites. Keep your anti-virus and anti-spyware software updated and run it at least once a week.

· Use a firewall. Your computer already has one if it’s running a Windows operating system, all you have to do it turn it in.

· Use Cookie management services or Turn on Cookies notices in your web browser. Cookies are little bits of information code that are used by websites to keep track of various things including which sites you have browsed, your user Ids and passwords, email addresses and some personal details you have entered. Often this is useful when you don’t want to re-enter this information every time you visit a site but it can also be misused by what is called “data mining”.

Data mining is when a website uses your browsing information to track what kind of sites you visit, how much time you spend on their sites, what links you created or used. This might be used for marketing purposes or spamming. When you enable Cookie notices or use Cookie management services it will notify you when a cookie is created on you PC and you would have the option to continue or not. In most cases this information is used only on the specific site you are visiting but can also in some cases be shared without your consent with thousands of other sites and thus causing spamming or even worse.

· Make sure that your operating system and security software is configured to automatically update.

· If you use a wireless network at home or at work, make sure its setup with a network security password. Most service providers now setup their router / wireless equipment with SID’s (Security Identifiers). If you have an older version wireless modem and you can connect to your wireless network without having to use a password, find out if you can set it up with a password, if not, replace it with a newer type modem/router. This will prevent illegal usage of your network and avoid certain security breaches.

Surfing the Web:

· Develop an Internet persona. Never give out your identifying details online. Ever. Develop an Internet persona for the web, the same way an author would create a nom de plume. A false identity online can keep your real identity safe from stalkers, predators and identity thieves.

· Keep your profile private. When you use social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook make your profile and photos private so that only people you approve can see them. Even then you will get requests from strangers who want to add you as a friend. Don’t add anyone that you don’t know to your friends list and never give out any personal information like where you live online.

· Don’t put anything on the Internet you wouldn’t want your mother to see. Leave the revealing pictures or the pictures from your last drunken party to show your friends in person. Employers, predators, and anyone else who might be looking can find these things online if they know how to look, even if your profile is set to private. Be careful of how much you reveal about yourself online.

Online privacy is becoming more of an issue than ever before. Some employers for example are starting to use Social networks to spy on their employees or even to do an online reference check on possible employees as to what they are up to. We hear of bosses sacking employees due to something that might have inadvertently been posted on a social site. Be aware that in today’s highly evolved information based world, everybody is being watched by someone on the web, to some extent of course.

· When creating passwords, use 8 or more characters consisting of letters and numbers and symbols. Change these passwords regularly.

· When having to enter personal or sensitive information for example logging on to a banking site, make sure the site address begins with “https”, this means its a secure site.

Emailing:

· Use separate email addresses from your personal address, disposable addresses if you like, when having to receive newsletter, posting to forums or commenting on blogs. Thus when your email address all of a sudden becomes a target for spammers then its a lot easier to just delete this address, create a new one and continue without the hassle of having to inform all your friends and family that you are no longer available on a certain address. Use separate addresses for your web business, your personal mail and just everyday signups and correspondence.

· Do not open or click on any emails or attachments from people that you don’t know or if they look suspicious. Most email programs can be set with a Auto Preview Reading Pane, thus avoiding having to open the particular email.

There are signs that a mail might be dangerous. Things like, unknown senders, spelling errors in the title or body text, winning incredible competitions, grammatical errors etc. Rule of thumb, if you request the mail or know the person whom sent it, be careful.

These tips can help you keep safe online. Currently there is no real sure way to avoid the misuse of you information on the web and we do not profess that these points highlighted in this post is going to ultimately keep you safe, but by being aware of the dangerous areas and understanding the pitfalls of the online world could just avoid your future on the web and your life from being damaged or destroyed.

The idea of working at home is attractive, but the reality can be challenging. Fortunately, most of the challenges one faces can be managed with a little effort and forethought.

One of the most commonly encountered areas of frustration is combining work and home. A few factors converge to complicate things for those working at home. First, the traditional separation between work and home is eliminated. Lines become blurred and problems ensue. Second, a primary motivator for many working at home is a desire to spend more time with children. It’s a laudable goal, but it also produces some complications.

This week we discuss: SPLITTING TIME – WORK AND FAMILY

If you’re new to working at home, you’ll quickly find that it’s not as easy as you thought it could be to manage the home, the kids, and the job. Many decide to leave the workforce, thinking that if they instead work at home, that they will have plenty of time to keep the house clean and organized while keeping the children under control.

The truth is, working at home takes much more motivation, perseverance and commitment than a job outside the home does. Balancing work and family can seem almost impossible at first, but it is easier than that. While it is hard work to earn money while raising your children, it is infinitely more rewarding than spending all day away from your family only to come home tired and unwilling to participate in family activities.

However, if you’re struggling for ways to keep the balance and maintain your sanity, look to these helpful tips.

1. Make lists and prioritize: This holds true for both personal and professional “to dos.” Those who work at home will have no shortage of things around the house to keep up with.

Knowing exactly what you need to accomplish will help you prioritize your day, getting the most important things out of the way first. That way, if your day doesn’t quite go as planned, it will be the least important things that don’t get done.

2. Schedule your work and your play: When we have an outside job, our bosses determine our schedules. We’re allowed breaks, lunches, and the occasional vacation day. When working at home, those who keep a schedule are able to stay on track and balance their work and home lives more efficiently.

Don’t forget to schedule some fun time as well. That way you aren’t taking away time from work that needs to be done, causing a situation where working overtime on a later day will cause family stress.

3. Respect your family’s wishes: If your children or spouse prefers to spend more time with you when they get home, make a schedule that accommodates them. Try to work less in the evenings and on the weekends, and work harder and more efficiently during the day while they’re away.

4. Choose your battles wisely: Cutting the non-essential tasks from your day will save time, help you get your work done faster, and eliminate having your work overflow into family time.

Those who work at home may be tempted to tackle the pile of laundry instead of writing the proposal that is due, but choosing to fold laundry later while watching television with the family is a much better idea than having to miss family time so the proposal is done.

Being a work at home parent and spouse is a blessing, and many who are unable to be at home to raise their children will tell you they wish they had the means to work at home as well.

Though maintaining a healthy relationship with your work may be hard when trying to juggle the responsibilities of being a parent, there are ways to do it without sacrificing the precious time with your children or spouse.

What IS Depression?

Depression is a serious illness that affects more than 18 million adults in the United States alone. And I suspect more now than ever before with the current status of the world. Experts say that depression is the second most common illness among adults, with heart disease being the most common. People that suffer from depression have a hard time dealing with daily life and may have trouble forming or staying in relationships, holding a job, or even just going outside.

Depression can affect anyone at any age and could come from any number of causes. Depression can be brought on by a severe trauma in a person’s life that they have trouble dealing with. Or depression can just appear seemingly out of nowhere and with no obvious cause.

Depression is categorized by doctors as a mental health disorder even though it does have physical components. It is a disease; it isn’t “just all in your head” and it is not simply a matter of needing to cheer up. Depression is more than just a feeling of sadness. Depression is usually  considered to be a feeling of apathy towards life in general or a feeling of not caring about things that persists for more than two weeks.

Depression can be hard to diagnose as a condition because everyone feels sad or apathetic towards life at some time, usually after a major life change or a traumatic event.

There are many different symptoms that are associated with depression and each person experiences those symptoms differently. Because each person responds in a unique way to depression, it can be hard to find a therapy that will help each person deal with the symptoms of depression and people that are suffering from depression may need to try several different medications before finding one that helps them.

There are also five different types of depression. Some, like clinical depression, can last over a period of years while others like Seasonal Affective Disorder or postpartum depression are relatively short-lived because they are tied to cycles of life. Depression tied to recent life events, such as a tragedy, are also shortlived.

Depression can also be a symptom of other illnesses. When depression is combined with another illness it can be difficult for doctors to know if the depression is only being caused by the other ailment or if the depression is a separate condition.

Doctors have found that depression is often a problem for people that suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, social phobia, anxiety, panic, and sometimes even substance abuse. People that suffer from depression are statistically more likely to also have substance abuse problems because they will often try to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol to alleviate the symptoms of their depression. Since drugs and alcohol actually tend to intensify the symptoms of depression instead of stopping them it becomes a vicious cycle of depression and dependency.

People trapped in this vicious cycle usually end up needing treatment for the underlying depression even more than they did before they started trying to get rid of their symptoms with drugs and alcohol. Because each person experiences depression in a different way doctors often
have trouble diagnosing depression. Some studies have estimated that more than 15 million people suffer from undiagnosed depression in the United States alone every year.

9 Practical Ways to Avoid an Assault

There are lots of easy things that you can do that will significantly decrease your chances of being attacked. Here is a list of easy things that you can everyday to stay safe. Make it a habit to follow these tips and you will hopefully never be assaulted.

Always carry your keys in your hand when walking to your car. Have one key in between your thumb and index finger and if someone attacks you then jab him in the eye with the key and run.

If you’re walking on the street alone walk in the middle of the sidewalk. If you walk too close to the road someone in a car could grab you and pull you into a car and abduct you. If you walk too close to the other side of the sidewalk someone could come out of an alley or driveway and grab you or pull you into a shop or apartment.

If you walk to and from work carry your pumps in a bag and wear gym shoes to walk in. You can’t run away from an attacker in 4 inch stilettos but you can in gym shoes or even flat shoes.

If you work in the office late at night take the elevator down or up and not the stairs. An attacker could grab you in a stairwell but not in an elevator.

Trust your gut. If you get a bad feeling about a particular street, a particular building, or anyplace else turn and walk away. Always trust your instincts.

Don’t wear headphones. They are distracting and will make you look more vulnerable.

If you are attacked shout “FIRE” instead of “HELP”. Studies have shown that people are more likely to come running if you yell “FIRE” instead of “HELP”.

Always carry coins or a calling card with you. If you need to make a call and your cell phone battery is dead or you are out of cell range you need to have money or a calling card so you can use a payphone.

Wear your purse and cell phone diagonally over your shoulder and under your coat.

 

Violence happens.  It happens every day. You need to really accept that and be prepared, but you can't let that rule your life.  You can't hide inside your house or cower every time someone passes you on the street.  Learning self defense is about learning to take control of your life, your safety and your body.

On asanas.

Salutation to Âdinatha (Siva) who expounded the knowledge of Hatha Yoga, which like a staircase leads the aspirant to the high pinnacled Raja Yoga.

Yogin Swatmarama, after saluting his Gurû Srinatha explains Hatha Yoga for the attainment of Raja Yoga.

Owing to the darkness arising from the multiplicity of opinions people are unable to know the Raja Yoga.

Compassionate Swatmarama composes the Hatha Yoga Pradipika like a torch to dispel it.

Matsyendra, Goraksa, etc., knew Hatha Vidya, and by their favor Yogi Swatmarama also learnt it from them. 

The following Siddhas (masters) are said to have existed in former times:

Sri Adinatha (Siva), Matsyendra, Natha, Sabar, Anand, Bhairava, Chaurangi, Mina Natha, Goraksanatha, Virupaksa, Bilesaya, Manthana, Bhairava, Siddhi Buddha, Kanthadi, Karantaka, Surananda, Siddhipada, Charapati, Kaneri, Pujyapada, Nityanatha, Niranjana, Kapali, Vindunatha, Kaka Chandiswara, Allama, Prabhudeva, Ghoda, Choli, Tintini, Bhanuki, Nardeva, Khanda Kapalika.

These Mahasiddhas (great masters), breaking the sceptre of death, are roaming in the universe.

Like a house protecting one from the heat of the sun, Hatha Yoga protects its practisers from the burning heat of the three Tapas; and, similarly, it is the supporting tortoise, as it were, for those who are constantly devoted to the practice of Yoga.

A yogi desirous of success should keep the knowledge of Hatha Yoga secret; for it becomes potent by concealing, and impotent by exposing.

The Yogi should practice Hatha Yoga in a small room, situated in a solitary place, being 4 cubits square, and free from stones, fire, water, disturbances of all kinds, and in a country where justice is properly administered, where good people live, and food can be obtained easily and plentifully.

The room should have a small door, be free from holes, hollows, neither too high nor too low, well plastered with cow-dung and free from dirt, filth and insects. On its outside there should be bowers, raised platform (chabootra), a well, and a compound. These characteristics of a room for Hatha Yogis have been described by adepts in the practice of Hatha. Having seated in such a room and free from all anxieties, he should practice Yoga, as instructed by his gurû .

Yoga is destroyed by the following six causes: Over-eating, exertion, talkativeness, adhering to rules, i.e., cold bath in the morning, eating at night, or eating fruits only, company of men, and unsteadiness.

The following six bring speedy success: Courage, daring, perseverance, discriminative knowledge, faith, aloofness from company.

The ten rules of conduct are: ahimsâ (non-injuring), truth, non-stealing, continence, forgiveness, endurance, compassion, meekness, sparing diet, and cleanliness.

The ten niyamas mentioned by those proficient in the knowledge of Yoga are: Tapa, patience, belief in God, charity, adoration of God, hearing discourses on the principles of religion, shame, intellect, Tapa and Yajna.

 

Asanas.

Being the first accessory of Hatha Yoga, asana is described first. It should be practiced for gaining steady posture, health and lightness of body.

I am going to describe certain âsanas which have been adopted by Munis like Vasistha, etc., and Yogis like Matsyendra, etc. Swastika-asana:

Having kept both the hands under both the thighs, with the body straight, when one sits calmly in this posture, it is called Swastika. Gomukha- sana.

One foot is to be placed on the thigh of the opposite side; and so also the other foot on the opposite thigh. This is called Virâsana. Kurmasana.

Placing the right ankle on the left side of the anus, and the left ankle on the right side of it, makes what the Yogis call Kurma-âsana. Kukkuta asana.

Taking the posture of Padmâ-âsana and carrying the hands under the thighs, when the Yogi raises himself above the ground, with his palms resting on the ground, it becomes Kukkuta-âsana. Utana Kurma- sana.

Having assumed the Kukkuta-asana, when one grasps his neck by crossing his hands behind his head, and lies in this posture with his back touching the ground, it becomes Uttana Kurma-asana, from its appearance like that of a tortoise Dhanura asana.

Having caught the toes of the foot with both hands and carried them to the ears by drawing the body like a bow, it becomes Dhanura âsana. Matsya-asana.

Having placed with the right foot at the root of the left thigh, let the toe be grasped with the right hand passing over the back, and having placed the left foot on the right thigh at its root, let it be grasped with the left hand passing behind the back. This is the âsana, as explained by Sri Matsyânatha. It increases appetite and is an instrument for destroying the group of the most deadly diseases. Its practice awakens the Kundalini, stops the nectar shedding from the moon in people. Paschima Tana.

Having stretched the feet on the ground, like a stick, and having grasped the toes of both feet with both hands, when one sits with his forehead resting on the thighs, it is called Paschima Tâna.

This Paschima Tâna carries the air from the front to the back part of the body (i.e., to the susumna). It kindles gastric fire, reduces obesity and cures all diseases of men. Mayura-asana.

Place the palms of both hands on the ground, and place the navel on both the elbows and balancing thus, the body should be stretched backwards like a stick. This is called Mayura-asana.

This âsana soon destroyes all diseases, and removes abdominal disorders, and also those arising from irregularities of phlegm, bile and wind, digests unwholesome food taken in excess, increases appetite and destroys the most deadly poison.

Sava-âsana.
Laying down on the ground, like a corpse, is called Sava-âsana. It removes fatigue and gives rest to the mind.

Siva taught 84 âsanas. Of these the first four being essential ones, I am going to explain them here:

These four are: The Siddha, Padma, Simha and BhadraEven of these, the Siddha-âsana, being very comfortable, one should always practice it.

The Siddhâsana.

  1. Press firmly the heel of the left foot against the perineum, and the right heel above the lingha. With the chin pressing on the chest, one should sit calmly, having restrained the senses, and gaze steadily at the space between the eyebrows. This is called the Siddha âsana, the opener of the door of salvation.
  2. This Siddhâsana is performed also by placing the left heel on the Medhra (above the penis), and placing the right one next to it. Some call this Siddhâsana, some Vajrâsana. Others call it Mukta âsana or Gupta âsana.
  3. Just as sparing food is among Yamas, and Ahimsâ among the Niyamas, so is Siddhâsana called by adepts the chief of all the âsanas.
  4. Out of the 84 âsanas Siddhâsana should always be practiced, because it cleanses the impurities of 72,000 nâdis.
By contemplating on oneself, by eating sparingly, and by practicing Siddhâsana for 12 years, the Yogi obtains success. Other postures are of no use, when success has been achieved in Siddhâsana, and Prâna Vâyu becomes calm and restrained by Kevala Kumbhaka.
Success in one Siddhâsana alone becoming firmly established, one gets Unmani at once, and the three bonds (Bandhas) are accomplished of themselves.
There is no âsana like the Siddhâsana and no Kumbhaka like the Kevala. There is no mudrâ like the Khechari and no laya like the Nada (Anahâta Nâda).

Padmâsana.

  1. Place the right foot on the left thigh and the left foot on the right thigh, and grasp the toes with the hands crossed over the back. Press the chin against the chest and gaze on the tip of the nose. This is called the Padmâsana, the destroyer of the diseases of the Yamis.

  2. Place the feet on the thighs, with the soles upward, and place the hands on the thighs, with the palms upwards. Gaze on the tip of the nose, keeping the tongue pressed against the root of the teeth of the upper jaw, and the chin against the chest, and raise the air up slowly, i.e., pull the apâna-vâyu gently upwards. This is called the Padmâsana, the destroyer of all diseases.

It is difficult of attainment by everybody, but can be learnt by intelligent people in this world.

  1. Having kept both hands together in the lap, performing the Padmâsana firmly, keeping the chin fixed to the chest and contemplating on Him in the mind, by drawing the apâna-vâyu up (performing Mula Bandha) and pushing down the air after inhaling it, joining thus the prana and apâna in the navel, one gets the highest intelligence by awakening the sakti (kundalini) thus.

N.B.– When Apâna Vâyu is drawn gently up and after filling the lungs with the air from outside, the prana is forced down by and by so as to join both of them in the navel, they both enter then the Kundalini and, reaching the Brahma randra (the great hole), they make the mind calm. Then the mind can contemplate on the nature of the atmana and can enjoy the highest bliss. The Yogi who, sitting with Padmâsana, can control breathing, there is no doubt, is free from bondage.

The Simhâsana.

  1. Press the heels on both sides of the seam of the Perineum, in such a way that the left heel touches the right side and the right heel touches the left side of it. Place the hands on the thighs, with stretched fingers, and keeping the mouth open and the mind collected, gaze on the tip of the nose. This is Simhâsana, held sacred by the best Yogis.

This excellent âsana effects the completion of the three Bandhas (the Mulabandha, Kantha or Jâlandhar Bandha and Uddiyâna Bandha).

The Bhandrâsana.

  1. Place the heels on either side of the seam of the Perineum, keeping the left heel on the left side and the right one on the right side, holding the feet firmly joined to one another with both the hands. This Bhadrâsana is the destroyer of all diseases.

  2. The expert Yogis call this Goraksa âsana. By sitting with this âsana, the Yogi gets rid of fatigue. The Nadis should be cleansed of their impurities by performing the mudrâs, etc., (which are the practices relating to the air) âsanas, Kumbhakas and various curious mudrâs. By regular and close attention to Nâda (anâhata nâda) in Hatha Yoga, a Brahmachari, sparing in diet, unattached to objects of enjoyment, and devoted to Yoga, gains success, no doubt, within a year.

  3. Abstemious feeding is that in which 3/4 of hunger is satisfied with food, well cooked with ghee and sweets, and eaten with the offering of it to Siva.

Foods injurious to a Yogi.

  1. Bitter, sour, saltish, green vegetables, fermented, oil, grape seed, intoxicating liquors, fish, meat, curds, chhaasa pulses, plums, oil-cake, asafoetida (hinga), garlic, onion, etc., should not be eaten.

  2. Food heated again, dry, having too much salt, sour, minor grains, and vegetables that cause burning sensation, should not be eaten. Fire, women, travelling, etc., should be avoided.

  3. As said by Goraksa, one should keep aloof from the society of the evil-minded, fire, women, travelling, early morning bath, fasting, and all kinds of bodily exertion.

  4. Wheat, rice, barley, shâstik (a kind of rice), good corns, milk, ghee, sugar, butter, sugarcandy, honey, dried ginger, Parwal (a vegetable), the five vegetables, moong, pure water, these are very beneficial to those who practice Yoga.

  5. A yogi should eat tonics (things giving strength), well sweetened, greasy (made with ghee), milk butter, etc., which may increase humors of the body, according to his desire.

Whether young, old or too old, sick or lean, one who discards laziness, gets success if he practices Yoga. Success comes to him who is engaged in the practice.

How can one get success without practice; for by merely reading books on Yoga, one can never get success.

Success cannot be attained by adopting a particular dress (Vesa). It cannot be gained by telling tales. Practice alone is the means to success. This is true, there is no doubt.

âsanas, various Kumbhakas, and other divine means, all should be practiced in the practice of Hatha Yoga, till the fruitóRâja Yoga is obtained.

WHAT IS HONEY?

Honey is the most  widely consumed food product produced by insects. It is also a key element in thousands of folk remedies, health and beauty aids and other practical uses.

The thick, sweet liquid is made by bees and contains the insects enzymes, as well has sugars, water and oil. Bees fly to flowers and extract the nectar from the plants using their tongues. The honey is stored within the bees’ bodies. After a bee visits enough flowers to get its fill, it returns to the hive and regurgitates the nectar, which is consumed by bees that are not involved in the collection process. The enzymes within the bodies of these “house bees” evaporate much of the water in the nectar, creating honey. They finished liquid is stored in honeycomb cells within the hives and is used for nourishment by all the bees in the colony.

Fortunately, individual hives produce far more honey than is actually necessary for the colony’s survival. The honey ripens within the5honeycomb and eventually becomes a tasty and consumable product with a variety of exciting additional uses.

Honey has been around far longer than the little squeezable plastic bear containers we may have in our cupboards! It is impossible to say how long people have been gathering and consuming honey because even our earliest historical records indicate that we have enjoyed the work of bees.

Cave paintings believed to have been created in or around 7000 BC show that people were keeping bees even then. Honey bees predate that record by centuries, though. Fossil evidence shows that bees were working their magic over 150 million years ago, which means that even the earliest people may have made use of honey.

We know that ancient Egyptians kept bees in specially made hives. The bee makes regular appearances in Egyptian hieroglyphics and was often used as a symbol of royalty as far back as 2400 BC. The Egyptians used honey in a variety of capacities. It was, of course, used to sweeten food and drink. It as also used as an ingredient in embalming fluids and was offered the gods as a sacrifice!

The ancient Greeks also used honey. It was an important feature of early Greek cuisine and was also used as a health aid. The Romans relied heavily on honey within their diets and beekeeping was one of the Roman Empire’s growth industries. The growth of Christianity, in time, led to an increased demand for beeswax for church candles. Honey also grew in popularity as a sweetener. The appeal of honey continued to grow, unabated, through the Renaissance. At that time, however, sugar from other parts of the world became more common and the use of honey went into decline. By the 1600s, sugar was actually used more often than honey as a sweetener.

Honey production, however, did not die. Beeswax remained a valuable commodity and the discovery that kept bees could help in the pollination of fruit-bearing trees also helps support the industry. At the same time, honey was still the preferred sweetener of many people and significant numbers recognized the valuable medicinal and health-related properties of honey.

Honey continues to be an important component in a great deal of cooking, its relative health superiority and the resurgence in interest in traditional medicine and healing is also encouraging to the honey industry. Bees have been used to signify ancient royalty. They were embroidered on the robes of Napoleon. Today, they fill cute plastic bears and sit on our tables and within our pantries.
